An Ode to Physicians
I get it. Back in the day, we didn't see eye to eye.
But times are different now.
We understand each other better.
Let’s just acknowledge,
Right here and right now,
That we’re a team.
I got your back and you got mine.
We are moldable, changeable puppets under the same roof.
We are controlled by money, not by what our patients need.
We’re tired. Jaded. Strung out on coffee and lack of sleep.
Just trying to keep our head above water.
You are not God,
And I am no angel.
We just understand what humans need.
We see what helps them thrive and what breaks them down.
We know this because we are humans ourselves.
Yet, we continue on for the best for our patients,
As much good as we can provide in a broken system.
We keep moving forward, learning how to work together,
Because now more than ever, we need each other.
I got your back.
I know you got mine.
We’ve performed miracles and we’ll continue to save lives,
Together, one patient at a time.
To all physicians, thank you for what you do.
